The birth of a child is exciting and exhilarating. It can also be stressful and confusing. In this free online course, follow the story of a baby’s first year of life to learn about the principles of infant nutrition and how you can apply them by answering the following questions: What are babies’ nutritional requirements? Explore infants’ nutritional requirements and the importance of both breastfeeding and formula in meeting them. What does the science say? Explore and compare global nutritional guidelines and best-practice, evidence-based research to find out what foods babies need, and how much and how often to feed them. What are some practical tips for feeding, weaning and dealing with fussy eaters? Discover when and how to introduce solid foods, and why participating in family meals is important for promoting food acceptance and preferences for lifelong health and wellbeing. Learn from nutritional experts Deakin University and the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition are leaders in the field of nutrition and many of our academics are international leaders in nutrition research. Our evidence-based, community-led Infant Program for new mothers has been used in Australia and has informed programs in a number of other countries.
