Déroulé
Week 1: The science of animal behaviour
An introduction to key concepts for studying animal behaviour, including evolution, natural selection, anthropomorphism, and the scientific method.
Week 2: Learning, cognition and development
How animals learn to adjust their behaviour to their environment, and how they use their mental abilities to solve practical problems.
Week 3: Communication
An introduction to the various means animals use to send signals to each other, and how these signals are influenced by the environment and social context.
Week 4: Finding food and avoiding predators
How animals find and exploit food resources, and how they avoid becoming food themselves.
Week 5: Mating systems and parental care
The complexities of creating the next generation, from finding and competing for a mate to rearing offspring.
Week 6: Living in groups
The costs and benefits of living with others, how complex social groups arise, and why some animals forego reproduction to help others breed.
Prérequis
The prerequisites are secondary school or a first/second year BSc.

L'université de Wageningue est une université située à Wageningue, aux Pays-Bas. Son campus est établi en banlieue de la ville, ce qui lui permet de projeter de nombreuses extensions de ses locaux, déjà tous ultra-modernes, en raison de son caractère scientifique. L'université est en effet axée sur les sciences de la vie, la sociologie, les relations commerciales et les ressources naturelles.
L'Université abrite notamment l'Insitut Alterra destiné à la recherche multidisciplinaire sur l'environnement artificialisé et anthropisé (environnement rural, écologie urbaine, espaces verts, trames vertes).
Plateforme
EdX est une plateforme d'apprentissage en ligne (dite FLOT ou MOOC). Elle héberge et met gratuitement à disposition des cours en ligne de niveau universitaire à travers le monde entier. Elle mène également des recherches sur l'apprentissage en ligne et la façon dont les utilisateurs utilisent celle-ci. Elle est à but non lucratif et la plateforme utilise un logiciel open source.
EdX a été fondée par le Massachusetts Institute of Technology et par l'université Harvard en mai 2012. En 2014, environ 50 écoles, associations et organisations internationales offrent ou projettent d'offrir des cours sur EdX. En juillet 2014, elle avait plus de 2,5 millions d'utilisateurs suivant plus de 200 cours en ligne.
Les deux universités américaines qui financent la plateforme ont investi 60 millions USD dans son développement. La plateforme France Université Numérique utilise la technologie openedX, supportée par Google.
