The “Savoir-Relier” leadership, a new approach of leadership, taught to HEC MBA’s student and top executives, enables better team leadership and encourages relationships between people in spite of their differences of opinion.
You will develop relational skills, self-knowledge and self-awareness on the way to unfold your own leadership style. You’ll learn the skills of The Savoir-Relier (SR) methodology for better connecting with yourself or others by going through the following 4 steps for successful leadership: Introspection, Conversation, Resilience and Responsibility toward Value Creation.
In this first MOOC of the "Inspirational Leadership" specialization, you will practice the first two steps of the method for successful leadership: Introspection and Conversation. You will get to know yourself better during the Introspection part and get a chance to improve your communication skills in order to better interact with others. You will meet people like you who will share their stories and their experience with Savoir-Relier and why it is so inspiring for them in their life. Together, you’ll develop greater self-awareness by developing a leadership self-portrait and going through fun activities to increase your empathy and communication.
Leaders from different organizations and participants of the HEC Paris Leadership Certificate, the program from which this course and specialization are inspired, will share with you their insights about what it takes to become a great leader and what they are able to achieve now that they apply The Savoir-Relier methodology.

WEEK 1 : Your inspirational leadership journey
In this module, you will discover a new approach to leadership, the savoir-relier, which is based on the capacity to build quality and trustworthy relationships. You will hear and watch people who have embarked on the same journey as you who will share their stories and their experience with Savoir-Relier. You will see why it is so inspiring for them in their life and find your own motivation to participate. You will reflect on your inspiration to lead and your personal leadership references to give an orientation to your personal leadership journey. You will capture the value of the step by step process which will help you define your leadership style. So get started and enjoy the journey with us!
WEEK 2 : Introspection to grow your self-awareness and sensibility
In this module, you will get to know yourself better thanks to introspection and measure the true value of this exercise.You will enter a sensory experience to develop your sensible skills, particularly increase your empathy and attention to others through fun built in exercises and quizzes like looking at a painting and sharing what you see, think and how you feel when focusing on it.You will understand the role of subjective thoughts in the way you interact with people and practice active listening.
WEEK 3 : The conversation, learning to manage quality relationships
In this module, you will acquire the knowledge and skills that sense carries: using intuition to make decisions, giving a direction and vision for your projects and life.You will interact with people who like you will write a self-portrait and share their personal questions and stories in the conversation exercise. From this you will gain self-confidence and build quality and trustworthy relationships. You will define your own leadership challenge so you can improve your leadership skills.
Valérie Gauthier was educated in France and the United States, with a BS in Psychology, Masters in Modern Literature and English, a PhD in Comparative Literature and Stanford’s Graduate Business School’s Executive Program (EPSO). Drawing from her expertise in linguistics and poetic translation as well as leadership and cross-cultural relationships, she has built relational communication and leadership development programs in schools and in companies under the concept of savoir-relier. She has taught courses at NYU Stern and MIT Sloan as Visiting Professor. She now holds the HEC-Pernod Ricard Leadership Chair and runs the Leadership certificate” Program for HEC Paris. Dr. Gauthier was Dean of the HEC MBA Program from 2002 to 2010 where she redesigned the MBA curriculum and restructured the program with a view towards future societal and educational shifts. Under her two mandates, the program underwent a fundamental transformation that has placed the HEC MBA among the top MBA programs worldwide (FT MBA ranking – 18th in 2011 vs 67th in 2002. Elected best HEC Professor of the year, she received in 2001 the HEC Vernimmen award. In 2010 she was decorated as Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honor and that same year was selected as Visionary by Fortune “Global Visionaries Forum”. Her latest publication is: “Leading with Sense: The Intuitive Power of savoir-relier”, book published by Stanford University Press in 2014 and Eyrolles under the Title: Le Savoir-Relier. She was Professional Athlete in Ski and Tennis. Her passions include poetry, painting, education and technology.
