The INPS the only institute in Algeria and among the few institutions in the field of Statistics and Applied Economics in Africa was established in 1970 to provide a specific mission namely, planning fill the organ then cadres capable of effectively carrying out their tasks. Since its passage in 1983, under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and by adapting to the changes sweeping the national economy, the INPS has set new objectives:
ensure scientific quality training incorporating the new lessons in statistics and applied economics;
train high-level executives capable of intervening in all sectors of the economy;
open up to the outside world by encouraging partnerships with institutions and foreign universities;
encourage scientific research through the creation and establishment of laboratories and research teams.
