The National Autonomous University of Mexico is a Mexican public university.
Throughout its history, and particularly during the first seven decades of the 20th century, it has educated the leading political figures, writers, scientists, engineers and philosophers who have helped to build the country.
Founded in 1910 by decree of Porfirio Díaz as the National University of Mexico. UNAM was granted autonomy in 1929. In 1950 it moved to its new main campus in the University City, south of Mexico City. During the 1970s, it completed a major expansion programme, creating the five headquarters of the College of Sciences and Humanities and the five multidisciplinary campuses in Acatlán, Cuautitlán, Aragón, Iztacala and Zaragoza.
